ECi Tappets - Unparalleled Success |
September 27, 2005
Poplar Grove Airmotive, Inc. (PGA, Inc.) is one of the largest
F.A.A. approved engine overhaul facilities in the Midwest.
We were recently considered to be among the TOP FIVE SHOPS
(Aviation Consumer-April 05). We would like to share an
ECi parts experience.
In the last two years, PGA, Inc. has installed over 3000
ECi AEL72877 nitride hardened tappets in our engines with
unparalleled success. We, on behalf of our customers, are
no longer experiencing the undesirable cost of warranty
or pro rata parts warranty for spalled camshafts or tappets
on engines incorporated this ECi tappet.
Our preference is the ECi cam and tappet kit. It comes in
either a 4-cylinder kit part number AEL100 or a 6-cylinder
kit part number AEL101.
Thank you ECi!

Throw out the competition... and put in TITANs!! |
September 23, 2004
I just wanted you to know that I have been very pleased
with your cylinders. When I put on a new IO-520 on our C-185
I asked the shop to throw their cylinders away and put yours
on....The engine has been great ever since.
This 185 flies from Vancouver to Alaska as well as the Queen
Charlotte Islands and I want this plane to be operating
the best that can be.
Thanks

O-470 R engine - Running as smooth as perring from a cat!! |
July 31, 2004
We have overhauled [our customer's engine] with TITAN®
Nickel cylinders, Crankcase repaired by ECi, Crankshaft
repaired and balanced by ECi. Here's what he had to say...:
"Dear all,
Received engine on Monday afternoon in Maun.
Phillip and Wayne brought it to the airstrip at Dog Camp
same day. Tuesday half past five in the morning till two
in the afternoon they were working NONSTOP and fired up
the engine at 1400 on the ground.
Running as smooth as perring from a cat!!
Nobody has ever seen nor heard an engine running and sound
as perfect as this one. Perfect balanced, no vibration,
well prepared prior installation. Thanks to the Company
In Germany Dachsel Motors!"
The engine was sold to Botswana, Africa. The Customer flies
for "National Geographic Society" and WWF.
Best regards

The
Aviation Consumer
August 2004 A warts-and-all,
no apologies listing of the best products and services we’ve
seen this year. |
 |
Over the course of the typical editorial year,
we examine and test lots of aviation products and services.
We like to think we’re the professional shoppers of
aviation journalism and we have the VISA statements to back
up the claim. (By the way, if you think manufacturers give
us the stuff we try out, you’re mistaken. We either
buy it or borrow and return it.)
Our holy grail is to pit one product against another-or
sometimes a bunch of others-and decide which ones come out
on top so you, the reader and the buyer, can make an intelligent
purchasing decision. Because we accept no commercial advertising,
we’re quite comfortable with warts-and-all evaluations
and if a product doesn’t measure up, we’ll tell
you so.
Frankly, these days, not many products fail to deliver on
their advertised claims. Competition is too fierce for any
company to dare float a product that just doesn’t
work but it’s clear to us that some work better than
others and some are defintely better values than others.
And that’s the focus of the next few pages of this
month’s issue.
What follows is our annual round-up of what we think are
the best products and services we’ve seen during the
last year, with an eye toward innovation, quality and value.
BEST CYLINDERS: ECI NEW MANUFACTURE
Next to buying the airplane itself, an engine overhaul is
the biggest roll of the dice that any owner makes. And just
as clothes make the man, cylinders make the overhaul. In
an increasingly competitive market, our recent reader survey
indicates that Engine Components, Inc. makes the more durable
cylinders for most overhauls...
Eight of 10 ECI customers told us they would buy the company’s
cylinders again, if given the choice. Contact ECI at www.eci.aero
or 800-324-2359. The

Keep up the good work! - O-200/300 |
| February 2004
This is just a note to mention how much I enjoyed the
recent article in the AOPA PILOT magazine. I am 76 years
of age. I soloed as a 16 year old in '44, just about the
time you were getting started! I did sell my most recent
plane a few years ago, but was glad to see the news update,
because you folks had helped me through the years.
My last plane was a Cessna 175, restored to pristine condition,
and with which I had about 13 wonderful years of enjoyment!
The only major problem was the old Continental GO-300!!!
Through the years, I had a few jug problems, but you fold
came to my rescue. Many thanks!
In the closing paragraphs, I happily noted the references
to the O-200 and O-300 engines. I'm sure you are going
to make many owners happy with that news! There surely
are a lot of birds out there with those old engines.
Again, my best wishes, keep up the good work.
Cordially,
W. Smith Kirk |

Top-shelf Support |
February 2002
Just a note to say thank you to you and Jimmy for stopping
by Penn Yan. As always, it was good to see you and I hope
we helped you.
As a follow-up, I spent some time with our parts people
asking them about ECI and the product information they are
receiving. They unanimously agreed that ECI does a great
job (much better than anyone else) keeping them up to date
on what's new. Ordering is easy and the support
was reported to me as being top shelf.
Thanks again,
B. Middlebrook
